Company Overview

My name is James Richard Bowers. I was born in Columbus, Ohio on November 8, 1957. I moved to the Flint prior to starting the third grade. With the exception of 8 years in Petoskey, I have been in the Genesee County area.

I graduated from Flint Northern High School in June of 1976 with high honors. I enrolled in college for business and spent approximately 4 years in retail management. The long hours, low pay, and lack of mental stimulation forced me to look for a new career.

I was always extremely good with numbers. I am sure this came from my grandfather who always new his grocery bill total before the cashier ever told him. I was the same way. When other people struggled to add items on a calculator, I completed the same task in my head.

In late 1980, I took a taxation class and the rest is history. I was hooked. My first job was with the best taxman ever. Mr. L.J. Tadrick showed me all the different angles and basically taught me everything that mattered in this business. Mr. Tadrick was a genius. (He didn’t need a calculator either) I worked for Tadrick’s Tax Service for a total of 12 years. Unfortunately, Mr. Tadrick passed away in 1989.

This will be my 18th year in business for myself. If you do the math, this will be my 30th year in the tax preparation field. I have been blessed to make many friends through my business. I have met some of the most interesting people I could have ever dream of. I hope this trend continues for many years to come.

As noted previously, I learned a lot from Mr. Tadrick. To this day, I use many of his systems, methods, ideas, expertise, and the general way of thinking that I learned from him. As he tried to do for many years, I personally see each and every return that passes through my office. Even though I can’t do the entire return for every client, I do put my personal touch and signature on each return. I take great pride in my “finished product.”

Any client that requests to see me personally, I try to oblige if at all possible. Good customer relations is what built this business and good customer relations will keep it growing. I don’t expect to please everyone all the time, but I will continue to try and/or try harder. I prepared approximately 200 returns my first year on my own. Last year, I prepared over 1800. I am sure you can now understand why I can’t do every return from start to finish. After all, Mr. Ford did not personally build every auto, but his name was on every one that left the factory.

I attend some type of tax seminar(s) each year. I also make sure that my employees are well informed and educated prior to each tax season. There are always many changes from year to year and this year is the lottery for changes. If you think you can become a tax expert by using that TT program or others, you are really missing out. A computer program can’t speak. It can’t advise you what is allowable. It can’t tell you what you could do to improve future returns or why you have not received as large of a refund as your best friend. And most of all, it can’t represent you in case of an I.R.S. audit. I do all of this in my office.

As a service to my clients, I also do accounting and payroll preparation. I am also licensed to sell life insurance, as is one of my key employees. I advise my clients in many areas.

All of my returns are e-filed. There are many options on how you can receive your refund and/or how fast you receive your refund. I offer every option that I feel is feasible for my clients.

Although I strive to get every client the largest refund possible, I still work under very strict and ethical guidelines. I will not do anything illegal or un-ethical. I provide logbooks and various other materials to insure your return is accurate and does not raise questions.

Please feel free to visit my office. You may contact my office via phone (810-687-9014) or send a message via my e-mail. (jim @taxes-more.com)
I look forward to serving your needs and I hope to meet many new clients this year.
